2017 Portrait Highlights

This is a little selection of some my portrait images from 2017 I have had a wonderful year capturing all your families. We have made the most of the beautiful Sussex scenery and weather from soft winter light to summer skies

Some of the images were taken in well-known spots in Chichester such as West Dean Gardens and Wood end, and Bishops Palace Gardens, however, in some images we made use of little-known spots in and around your homes and gardens. I love the red winter berries in the background of James and Angie’s photo with their little one all bundled up!

I am very fortunate that my work gives me such a variety of skills from family portraiture to corporate headshots and marketing images for websites. It might be a new image for your social media profile, images of your team or a fresh set of images telling the story of your business.

There are a number of reasons people inquire about a portrait session, family get-togethers, special birthdays, new arrivals, birthday celebrations, to name a few. My favourite reason always being the wish to encapsulate you and your family as you are at this very moment. If you have a special event coming up in 2018 do get in touch as I would love to capture it for you!

Windswept Family Portrait Session at Bracklesham Beach

Becky came to me a few years after I photographed her daughter Robyn as a baby, she wanted some portraits to encompass their life by the sea. The session took place right outside their home that looks out on to a beautiful stretch of Bracklesham shoreline. This gave us such a variety of places for Robyn to play and explore, we splashed on the beach, played chase on the green between their house and the sea, and finished off with a cuppa back at the house and Robyn proudly showed me the sunflowers she was growing. Capturing all the different aspects that make a family unique is such a joy!

Family Three Generation Portrait Session – Wood End Woods in Chichester

Meet Mel and her family, Mel got in touch as it was her Mother in Law’s 60th birthday coming up and they wanted to do something a little special for her. We arranged to meet the whole family in the Bluebell woods in Chichester for some informal group shots with everybody followed by some clowning around in the trees (for the kids!) and time for everyone to relax and enjoy the surroundings…

Engagement Session at West Dean Gardens, Chichester and Boxgrove Priory

Helen and Dan had fantastic winter light for their Engagement session at the end of February, were totally spoilt for choice for backdrops and made the most of the winter textures of bare fruit trees in the walled garden. Nearer the time of their wedding, we also popped over to Boxgrove priory where they planned on having their wedding portraits taken and they brought their dog Huxley along and ended up feeling a little sidelined as he stole the show!

Newborn Photo Session in Chichester

Sophie and Alan first had a set of family portraits taken when George was three and now with the new addition of baby Brother Harry onto the scene, they decided it was time for an update. Luckily for them (and me!) Harry was an excellent sleeper so he breezed his way through the session barely waking even with George’s hysterical laughter with Alan tickling him! We included a special blanket knitted for Harry in some of his pictures, not that he noticed!

Family Portrait session at West Dean Gardens

Having photographed both of these fabulous couple’s weddings it was a pleasure to do a joint session for them with their rapidly expanding families! We found this little orchard at West Dean Gardens which not only provided a stunning backdrop with the spring apple blossom but the long grass and wildflowers mad a great playground for the children after the group photos were taken and we got some really natural shots of them exploring.

Home Newborn Photo Session in Southsea

This is an extra special set of images, meet my little nephew Milo, seen here at just 13 days old. As with most newborns, he was a hungry little chappie and we spent much of the session chatting while he fed, and cuddling him off to sleep (such a chore!) Between his feeds though we got some fantastic images of him in his nursery where Amy and Andy had chosen some rugs and blankets that lent themselves beautifully to the photo shoot. Their sofa also made a perfect backdrop, super soft fabric in a neutral colour and a great lined texture too, great choice guys!

Photos for Pallant Digital

When your Husband and his business partner run a digital agency, they often have some quirky ideas and this was no different! They decided to have their photos taken at Pallant House Art Gallery by this geometric ‘Composition for a Staircase’  paint installation by Lothar Götz. I personally loved it too, bright colour, clients with imagination and vision plus great natural light from the huge window on the stairwell. Result!

Portrait Session In Bishops Palace Gardens Chichester

Nadya you may also have seen on my blog, she is a dream to work with and a very adventurous and fun client. She studied in Chichester and often likes to have photography sessions here as it reminds her of that exciting time of her life. These images were taken in Bishops Palace Gardens in Chichester.

Location Photoshoot with Double a Gold Olympian

Sarah Ayton OBE is a double Olympic sailing gold medalist, inspirational speaker, and novice jockey. Sarah got in touch when she was working on her new website and wanted some images to represent three distinct topics: About herself, her passion for motivational speaking and inspiring others to sail, and her entrance as a novice into the prestigious Magnolia Cup at Glorious Goodwood. We really did have an adventurous morning, we started out at West Wittering Beach, using the wintery muted tones on the sand dunes creating some windswept portraits for Sarah’s ‘about me’ page. We then drove up to the Trundle which has a great view of Goodwood racecourse where we took some striking images with the red blue and green colours. Lastly, we headed to another Goodwood gem, The Kennels, Sarah wanted some images of her speaking which we created using the Library as our backdrop which has an atmospheric mixture of moody slivers of natural light and warm lamps behind.

Home Newborn Photo Session

You may have seen these images on my Blog before and I love re-visiting them! Capturing siblings and newborns together is not always an easy task but so rewarding when you achieve beautiful images that the family will have to keep and remind them of this special time in their lives.

Cake Smash Portrait Session

Nikki first contacted me when her daughter Freya was turning one for a cake smash session and this time it was her brother Rory’s turn, he was remarkably restrained with the cake but did get stuck in eventually! Before the cake came out we got a great image of the two together sharing a cheeky sibling giggle in their matching stripes…

Family Portrait Session in Chichester

Angie and James wanted some images of their little family in their home and the surrounding area, their home had some great natural light so we started our session there where their 5-month-old daughter Annabelle felt most relaxed. We then headed off for a stroll through their village to a spot in the countryside dear to them. They had some of their wedding photographs taken there and Angie also spent some time relaxing there before Annabelle was born. On our stroll back we found some vibrant winter berries that gave a little pop to the background.

Corporate Headshot Session for Nexa Properties

Dan and Jamie asked me to come and take some images of their team at their new company Nexa Properties in Portsmouth with a new and innovative approach to estate agency. They made me so welcome and were great fun to work with, a really lovely team!

Training Photography Session in Petersfield

Sammy and I decided to collaborate on a little training morning, our aim was to perfect some posing and lighting techniques and try out some new ideas too. This was my favourite image from the session, we had hilarious fun creating a draught of air from an old piece if cardboard Sammy had lying around. After chatting over some pieces of equipment that we would love to own in future, this reminded us that photography isn’t always about having the best kit!

Photo shoot for Pallant Digital at the Novium Museum

This shoot followed a talk that Ben and Simon gave at the Novium museum and while they were there they thought they would have some images together in the Tim Peake Exhibition (well why not!) both being Huge fans and Ben even went to the same primary school as Tim. The mood and lighting in the exhibition made for some dramatic shots for their blog.

Location Family Portrait Session in Stansted

Nikki has had a couple of photoshoots with me, the children have both had their own cake smash sessions, Rory’s taking place just a couple of months earlier in the year! This time she was keen to get the whole family and her parents involved. We chose a spot that they love and visit regularly for walks. The shoot was a present for Nikki’s Mum for her birthday and they really had a wonderful morning out, we headed off to their chosen spot, woodlands in Stansted with a view over to Stansted House, the Children had great fun with their Grandparents and Rory even found a digger along the way so he was one happy chappy!

Corporate Headshots in Chichester

Stuart was one of my final portrait clients of the year, he needed some headshots for his job with a new company. As is often the case with my shoots we chatted over a cuppa first before taking some relaxed shots of Stuart looking confident and super smart.

Studio Portraits from my Tangmere Mini Sessions in December

This was the first Mini Session event I have put on and I thoroughly enjoyed myself, I met some lovely families and it took me right back to my days as a Studio Portrait photographer, spending the day meeting one fantastic bunch of people after another and being carried along with the excitement and energy that they bring.
